Buy, sell, trade

At Sunshine Vinyl, we pride ourselves on buying and trading at fair prices. Your collection is special to you and we want to buy and trade from you at a price that feels good to both parties.

We offer higher prices for trade (store credit) than cash. Cash will be paid out via PayPal or Venmo. We do not buy or sell in cash in store.

We also buy CD's and Cassette's if they are in good condition at between $1 and $3 per CD or Cassette.

Weekdays are preferable to Saturdays as we are quieter. Please call or message us ahead of time to book an appointment if you have a large collection (aka more than 30 ish records).

Some tips when selling and trading

Make a list

If you have a large collection, it's helpful if you create a Discogs account and add a collection of all of your records on there to share with potential buyers. Most record stores will not have time to go through each and every record and price them individually, which is why you often get low bulk offers. Providing a list helps both the store and yourself to get a fairer, better price for your collection.

Call ahead

Before you bring a car load of records into a store, call ahead to make an appointment. Record stores are often busy and/or have a few employees and booking ahead of time helps them plan to get extra help while they go through your collection.

Be flexible

It may be helpful to offer to leave your collection with the store so they can look through things at an easier pace and give you a better offer.

Expect to be offered much less for cash than trade. Record stores don't make a huge margin on inventory - roughly around 20-30% on new stock. So, if you are looking to sell newer, recently repressed vinyl, stores will likely offer you much less for these since they are easily obtainable from new suppliers.

Older collections

Many stores will not take old records and/or records in poor condition that have been reproduced many times (this applies heavily to country and americana music). You will have better luck selling these on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace.
