This album was written as a chapter of my life lived in Austin Texas after losing my mother to brain cancer in my early 20s. The songs are meditations on grief, relationships, and the personal transformations I encountered throughout that recent decade. The title, “as it is,” came to me during a Vipassana Meditation retreat. The time I experienced in silence, motivated me to finish this album and to record these songs and stories simply as they were. I recorded the album primarily to tape in the homes of friends in Austin Texas, recording many of the instruments myself. I wanted the album to be raw and live, like the experiences themselves.
